Aimed at preventing anaemia in pregnant women and ensuring proper birth weight of babies.
Launching the scheme at the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (IOG) and Government Hospital for Women and Children, Egmore, on Monday, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said the scheme would help in further reducing the maternal and infant mortality rates in the State.
The ‘Amma maternal and child health nutrition kit’ consists of one kilo of nutritional powder, three bottles of iron tonic, one kilo of dates, 500 ml Aavin ghee and an Albendazole tablet. A pregnant woman will get two baskets — one in the third month of gestation and the other in the fifth. The CM pointed out that the scheme was launched as part of the financial assistance granted to pregnant women under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme.
